Consultation

Welcome to the the Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement Consultation Office. As the Consultation Officer for the Settlement I regularly respond to and address proponents looking to complete projects within our traditional lands.

Proponents that contact our office are mostly within the oil and gas industry, however, all projects including water, sewer, power, telecommunications and roadways are subject to the regulatory process, thus, they are obligated to seek our opinion when requesting project approval through the Alberta Government’s Aboriginal Consultation Office.

Our Consultation Office is one of many contact points at the Settlement Office for industry, however, we work cohesively with other departments, so getting in touch with us is simple. In addition to consultation, this office also plans land use events and proponent site visits to all parts of our traditional land.

As traditional knowledge is a huge component of our heritage,

Elders are included in our consultation activities, especially those out on the lands.

Each of the eight Settlements have their own consultation coordinators, however, we also have a central coordinator within the Métis Settlements General Council. The goal of the consultation office is to preserve our land, our use of the land and our way of life, all while working together with industry to participate in the benefits of progress.

Please feel free to contact me at the Pimachiowin Cultural Interpretive Centre or simply stop in anytime for a visit. Also check the “News” tab for regular updates and upcoming events.

Timothy Patenaude, Consultation Officer, Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement.

Please note that the secondary Consultation Contact is Nolan Cardinal.
